Closer relationships will slowly shift any anti-bike attitudes to, if not pro-bike, then at least pro-people.

Re: EVENT: Tues, Apr. 11 – Basic Bike Maintenance Workshop (FREE)

time?

Re: BLOOR: Bike lane pilot has boosted cyclist traffic by 36%

You were expecting fact-based decisions from this council? It is a great blog.

My question: what is your vision and plan for helping those of us in the true north, strong and free, to get reasonable, safe, infrastructure to commute in from the north? I live near Bathurst footsteps from the 905 and cannot get downtown safely. As well, my (very healthy) son, also a Cycle Toronto member, was hit by a car last year at the corner of Wilmington and Finch. We would all like to avoid that.

Thank you.

Sean Gorman

Re: NEWS: An opportunity to think big on Yonge Street

Think big? For a short amount of time, the city was enforcing the parking laws on the delivery trucks. It helped all traffic move through the city. The city has stopped that enforcement. UPS and Purolator now park wherever they want. Call to complain. If you happen to be on foot, it might be worth it to complain to the stores that are receiving their packages.

Re: FACE PALM: “How do I deal with cyclists when I park in bike lanes?”

Now now Pat. I've cycled that bridge daily too, for more than 10 years, and have never felt unsafe. With the bollards however, passing and being passed by other cyclists was dicey. If the lanes were wider, maybe I'd feel bollard indifferent. But frankly, I feel safer without them.

Re: FAIL: Toronto removes bollards on the Bloor Viaduct bike lane

Bollards are helpful to keep cars from parking in the bike lane. (They are a lot stiffer than they look, and you really don't want to slide or fall onto the bolts securing them to the asphalt.)

Disappointingly, this kind of development does not reassure me that anyone (cyclist or motorist) is actually learning to 'share the road'. I do not count it as a ‘win’ for cyclists, it just reinforces the message of segregation rather than integration. As a cyclist AND a motorist, I am an advocate for courtesy, respect and understanding between road users. As a cyclist, I have to take responsibility for my own safety, and not rely on the City, other drivers, cyclists or pedestrians to do that for me.

Fellow cyclists, please wear a helmet at all times, use lights day and
night, wave thanks to other road users when they accommodate you (even if it’s only what they should do) and be an ambassador for our chosen mode of transport.

Re: NEWS: Bike lanes eyed as loading zones for those aiding the disabled

Don't we just love (NOT!) the bigotry and discrimination. Why can't a motor vehicle loading a disabled person park in and obstruct the motor vehicle lane?

The only time that a vehicle picking up a disabled person should be allowed to park in the bike lane is if that vehicle is a bicycle.

Parking a motor vehicle in a bike lane poses a danger to the public, which constitutes the Criminal Code offence of Criminal Negligence. But good luck getting our police force to actually enforce the law against these dangerous criminals. That would mean getting over their bigotry and discrimination.
